Mr Oliver Bowes is a highly experienced Consultant Ophthalmic Surgeon in Essex and East London specialising in complex cataract and refractive surgery using the latest premium toric, multifocal and extended depth of focus lenses. He trained at Cambridge University Hospital and the world-leading Moorfields Eye Hospital. He has performed over 3000 cataract and refractive procedures with extensive experience in aiming to minimise a patient's reliance on glasses following treatment. The visual demands of every patient are individually assessed to determine what type of premium lens will best address their visual needs and the vast majority of patients achieve excellent outcomes as evidenced in regular patient reviews.
Oliver practices privately at the Spire Hartswood in Brentwood, Spire London East in Woodford and Nuffield Health The Holly Hospital in Buckhurst Hill. He is also an Honorary Consultant at Barking, Havering & Redbridge University Hospitals NHS Trust where he is the past clinical lead for cataract surgery and a former surgical trainer for the North London deanery.
Oliver sees patients with all types of ophthalmic conditions with additional specialism in cataract, refractive lens exchange, keratoconus, corneal transplantation, corneal collagen crosslinking, dry eye disease, blepharitis, chalazion, minor lid surgery and YAG laser treatment
Oliver completed his medical degree at University College London in 2009 with distinction in medical sciences and achieved several academic awards, including a commendation for the prestigious Duke-Elder Prize. He has numerous peer-reviewed publications and is regularly invited to lecture in the UK.
He holds a Fellowship of the Royal College of Ophthalmologists and is recognised as a specialist by the General Medical Council. His other professional memberships include the European and UK and Ireland Societies of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons (ESCRS, UKISCRS).
